Composting is a natural and sustainable way to dispose of organic waste such as food scraps. keeping it out of landfills. One of the key benefits of composting is its ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, specifically methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Landfills are a major source of methane, and by diverting organic material from landfills and instead using it to create compost, we can help to reduce methane emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
However, it still can be challenging to compost properly. That is, to produce something that is safe and useful as a soil amendment. This is what we were trying to achieve when we designed the Actium Compost Drums. They can accomplish this relatively easily. with a minimum amount of labour.
We’re pleased to have Dr. Meaghan Wilton provide us with composting articles relating some of her experiences and expertise with composting. Meaghan has operated an Actium Batch Compost Drum in the remote northern community of Fort Albany Ontario for over 5 years. Because of their cold climate, this is a particularly challenging task from which they have enjoyed a great level of success.
Enjoy!
